What is ERDA
 

ERDA is an autonomous, not-for-profit sector, association of the Indian electrical industries & utilities.  ERDA is registered as a society under the Society’s Act & Public Trust formed under Charity Commissioner of Maharashtra.  ERDA provides critical services to the power sector in three technical areas of “Testing & Evaluation”, “Field Services”, and “R&D and Expert Services”.  These services are provided through ERDA’s 24 state-of-the-art technical centres located at its Head office at Vadodara as well as through its three regional laboratories -   ERDA (West), Navi Mumbai; ERDA (North), Gurgaon and ERDA (South), Rajahmundry. ERDA is managed by a Managing Committee comprising of elected and nominated members from Utilities, Manufacturing Industries, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Government of India, Government of Gujarat, and Eminent Invited Experts. The Managing Committee is the Apex Policy Making Body of the organisation and is headed by an elected President and a Vice President.  The technical & business operations of the organisation are headed by Director - ERDA who reports to the Managing Committee.

The management structure of the organization was framed in a manner to ensure total freedom and independence in ERDA’s operations. The present constitution of the eighteen member Managing Committee of ERDA includes four members from Government Utilities (GETCO, PGVCL, DGVCL, & GIPCL), two members from Private Utilities (Tata Power & Torrent Power), and twelve members from Industries (ABB, ALSTOM, SIEMENS, L&T, BHEL etc.).  The Present President of ERDA is a nominee from a Government Power Utility (GETCO). In addition to the eighteen elected members, there is provision of maximum three Government nominees in ERDA’s Managing Committee.  Presently, there are two Government nominees in the Managing Committee namely a Representative of CSIR - Government of India and a Representative of Industries Commissioner, Government of Gujarat.

The surplus income generated by ERDA is not distributed as dividend (or by any other means) to its members.  Individual member of the Managing Committee have no interest in the investment of the association and no individual member of the Managing Committee is a debtor or creditor of the association.

The Government of Gujarat regularly funds setting up of new facilities and laboratories at ERDA. ERDA is routinely audited by Comptroller and Accountant General (Gujarat) for utilisation of funds sanctioned by the Government for various infrastructure and R&D projects.
